I've tried Marche Gourmand and Marche 440 in Laval as well as a couple of local IGAs, but no such luck. I don't make the treck out to Jean Talon often to see if its carried there, but would make it a point to stop in if I knew it was available there, or somewhere else in the area.

Both Bourque’s and Poche’s make a wonderful white boudin (same recipe without the blood), but neither makes the red. Babineaux’s in Breaux Bridge makes my favorite red boudin, LA. This stuff is awesome, man. They are specially licensed to sell it commercially and will ship it through a third party like Mail Boxes, Etc.

According to FDA spokesperson Tamara Ward, butter will last up to 10 days at room temperature before turning rancid. Rancid means that enzymes that are naturally present in milk begin to digest the fats in the butter, causing a sour flavor and aroma. The butter isn’t unsafe at that point, it just tastes bad.

The idea of employing a cook is probably not practical. Good cooks are working, and "underutilized" mayan chefs are impossible to reach; they do not have cell phones or computers or mailboxes. The best Yucatec dishes are roast suckling pig, and redfish baked in the ground with banana leaves, which are both better enjoyed than attempted oneself.

my only gripe is that the $13 order doesn't come with consomme. the large consomme is an extra $3.50 or so. being charged for consomme seems a bit weird, but it was still a good deal overall. the two of us stuffed ourselves for about $20, including one mexican coke in a bottle. the consomme had garbanzo beans, which was a nice touch.

Passionate Chowhounds often have an interest, sometimes equally passionate, in the history and evolution of particular subsets of different cuisines, and, I don't know, in my own strange logic, I thought that asking Chowhounders for info and guidance would be the perfect place to start.

Whatever restaurants you go to, do not miss the fresh fruit that you buy in markets. We spent the month of May in Andalucia ten years ago and are still talking about the strawberries, cherries, melons, pineapples, and nisperos (little apricot-like fruits).

An update - from recent meals - I put Attica at two stars and Movida as a solid one. i also thought Sepia in Sydney would get two and many one especially places like Sean's. And the Royal Mail is a good two with Provenance a good one my one. My visit to Vue du Monde a few yers back would have them as a one maybe but even then it would be reluctant.

the first day or 2 you should watch what you eat & not eat on the street. once your body is acclimated, just be mindful of your surroundings. I always think that a healthy squeeze of lime and a generous amount of chile helps kill the bacterias. the only time i've gotten serious food poisoning has been off some mushrooms that i prepared at home.

Bayport Cookery is our favorite MN based special occasion dining destination. Unfortunately, we have to stay in a local B&B or pay for a taxi/limo ride back to the Minneapolis in order to properly enjoy it. I used to have the same complaint about LBV, but Josh & Tim decided to follow the money.

Love Santillana del Mar. Been there twice and both times stayed at the Parador San Blas. There are a lot of decent restaurants in the general area surrounding the Parador. No standouts per se, but taking a walk on the small streets, reviewing menus then choosing one you like makes it a lot of fun.

Hand-made corn tortillas with beautiful char-marks and edges that were ever-so-slightly crispy. Very satisfying, and the best thing I've eaten since I've been in town. They also have the "dry" birria, which is basically just the meat served in plate-form (beans, rice). I wish I had more room to sample their other offerings. El Borrego de Oro

Axum’s was quite good, the green beans tasting fresh with a texture that was almost chewy and without an overpowering tomato taste that would indicate the use of tomato paste. The menu didn’t mention the next two dishes I tried, the first being a cabbage and potato dish that was good and uniformly tender.
